Miami Marlins

LoanDepot Park

Florida, United States

The Miami Marlins were established in 1993 as an expansion team program from Major League Baseball. They originally played their home games at Joe Robbie Stadium, which they shared with the NFL's Miami Dolphins as the Florida Marlins. They changed their name to the Miami Marlins and moved to their new, baseball-specific stadium, LoanDepot Park, in 2012. This modern facility features a retractable roof, allowing games to proceed without weather-related interruptions. The stadium also embraces a vibrant atmosphere, celebrating Latin American culture.

Despite having one of the lowest winning percentages among active MLB franchises, the Marlins have achieved remarkable postseason success. They have made the playoffs four times (1997, 2003, 2020, and 2023) and won the World Series in their first two playoff appearances (1997 and 2003). Notably, both championships were secured as a wild card team, since the Marlins have yet to clinch a division title.

Over the years, the Marlins have been home to several notable players, such as Jeff Conine, known as “Mr. Marlin” and a key contributor to both World Series teams; Luis Castillo, renowned for his speed and defensive prowess, who played a pivotal role in the 2003 championship run; José Fernández, a two-time All-Star and the 2013 National League Rookie of the Year; and Giancarlo Stanton, who became the first Marlin to receive the National League MVP award on November 16, 2017.

The Marlins also made headlines when they hired Kim Ng as their general manager, making her the first Asian-American woman hired for an executive position in any American major professional sports league. She also became the first woman in MLB history to lead a playoff team in September 2023.

In recent developments, the Marlins are undergoing a rebuilding phase, making several roster changes, including the acquisition of new talent and the departure of key players like Jesús Luzardo and Jake Burger.
