The Arizona Diamondbacks, often referred to as the D-backs, are one of the newest teams in Major League Baseball (MLB). Established in 1998 as an expansion team, the Diamondbacks made a significant impact early in their history.

With a rapid ascent to success, the Diamondbacks set a record as the youngest and fastest expansion team to win a World Series title. In just their fourth season, they claimed their first championship in 2001, defeating the New York Yankees in a thrilling seven-game series. This victory cemented their place in MLB history as the quickest expansion team to achieve such a feat.

Despite being a relatively young franchise, the Diamondbacks have been home to several notable players and future Hall of Famers. Pitcher Randy Johnson, a key figure in the 2001 championship run, earned multiple Cy Young Awards during his tenure with the team. Another standout is outfielder Luis Gonzalez, who delivered the game-winning hit in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series. Other significant players include Curt Schilling, who, alongside Johnson, formed a formidable pitching duo, and Paul Goldschmidt, a multiple-time All-Star first baseman known for his consistent offensive production.

Originally known as Bank One Ballpark, Chase Field has been the home of the Diamondbacks since 1998. The park was the first in MLB history to have a retractable roof over a natural grass playing surface, allowing games to be played in a climate-controlled environment—an essential feature given Phoenix's desert heat. Additionally, the team's mascot, D. Baxter the Bobcat, adds a distinctive Southwestern flair, representing the wildcats native to Arizona.

The Diamondbacks have built rivalries over the years, particularly with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Colorado Rockies. Their rivalry with the Dodgers intensified in the 2010s due to multiple on-field incidents and high-stakes divisional clashes. Meanwhile, their competition with the Rockies, another expansion team from 1993, is fueled by their shared history and battles in the National League West division.
